This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.
The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home? What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
A pupil's first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching. Pupils may be sent home with paper work to complete before the online programme is set up.
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we may need to make some adaptations in some subjects.
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
Class teachers will set a minimum of 3 hours of learning each day. Work will be set and uploaded to Google Classroom before 9am each day.
Class teachers will prepare a brief daily learning timetable for parents to know exactly what is expected for the day.
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
We are using Google Classroom to provide online remote education. All children have been given an email address and a password. If you have any difficulties logging in or with any other aspect of Google Classroom please telephone the school office and we will do our best to help you. Alternatively, you can email us at admin@standrewsce.lambeth.sch.uk.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Therefore, we have a small number of laptops and other remote devices that we are able to loan to families.
How will my child be taught remotely?
Classteachers will implement a registration session in the morning and at the end of the school day via Google Meet. There will also be at least one other virtual lesson throughout the day.
Class teachers will provide daily feedback and communication to the class via Google Meet and the class stream, where appropriate.
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
We expect all children to log in and to participate with the online learning sessions.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Class teachers will contact parents via telephone to check-in and/or share any concerns, if necessary.
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
Some pupils will be expected to attend 1:1 or small group sessions with the class teacher or a teaching assistant throughout the school day. Families will be contacted directly via telephone to discuss arrangements.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
If an individual child is self-isolating then that child will either be provided with a paper pack of work to complete or be directed to Google Classroom to complete work set online.
